Fraunhofer CCPE compact

There is a growing demand for information on the environmental impact of the use of recycled plastics. However, publications and reliable data are rare. In 2024, CCPE researchers have published ten challenges and ten requirements to increase the comparability and transparency in the LCA of plastics recycling. Now is time for industry, science and policy makers to exchange ideas and reach consensus on how to model environmental impacts of recycled plastics.

In this Fraunhofer CCPE compact event, we will present insights and issues on the LCA of recycled plastics from two different technologies with industrial partners (solvent-based and mechanical recycling). Together we would like to discuss interactively how recycled plastics should be modelled in LCA to enable comparisons between different technologies. At the end of the workshop, in addition to an outlook, we will also invite recycling experts to continue to participate in this process of harmonization and transparency of LCA data and methods for recycled plastics.
